Hello, Tom Morris. Another administrator, Shanel, deleted Tim Koch; could you please restore it to User:Launchballer/Tim Koch because he is a member of Heartist (see User:Launchballer/Heartist) and there are a number of incoming links? I'm undecided what to write, whether an article, redirect or disambiguation page, but something is necessary. Thank you.--Launchballer 11:48, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Launchballer: I'm just rushing out the house. I'll deal with this later. —Tom Morris (talk) 11:58, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Launchballer: I just got around to looking at it. There's nothing of value on that page. If you are intending to write an article, you'd be better doing it from scratch than using that. It's just promotional fluff. So,  Not done. —Tom Morris (talk) 13:33, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

AfD relistings

Thanks for your recent work relisting AfD discussions. This oft-unnoticed maintenance task is important to keep things organized at AfD, and your work is appreciated. Cheers, Northamerica1000(talk) 12:08, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Cher (and others)

Per WP:protection policy, pending changes is appropriate for infrequently-edited pages. This article is highly edited by signed users; some IP contributors are decent enough not to be vandalism. --George Ho (talk) 04:26, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

Cher is quite highly edited, but there have been violations of the BLP policy such that the article has been put on to semi-protection in addition to pending changes. I'm happy to take PC off the article but I fear that it'll probably have to go back on again. —Tom Morris (talk) 16:40, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

What about deaths in 2013? It is also highly edited. George Ho (talk) 16:26, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

The reason I put deaths in 2013 on to PC, if I recall correctly, was that people were adding unsourced material that violates BLP into the article. Given that people like journalists and others use the page, it seems reasonable that if we are going to list someone as dead, we should at the every least have someone check that the source provided is reasonable and not approve the edit if there isn't a RS. I'm not seeing any particular problem with PC on that page.
In the future, please just request unprotection at WP:RFPP. —Tom Morris (talk) 16:40, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
I was instructed by WP:RFPP to discuss with admin first, like you. But I guess I can understand reasons, so requesting unprotection there is no longer necessary. George Ho (talk) 16:46, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
It is a courtesy to discuss protections with admins. I only ask because I do a lot of protection requests, and I'm pretty chilled out about other admins reversing my decisions, so I'd rather have that happen than a request sit on my talk page when I might, say, be busy with work (or out in a pub or with family or whatnot). —Tom Morris (talk) 16:48, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Nouman Ali Khan

Hi Tom, The reasons cited for deleting the page on Nouman Ali Khan are follows : 25 February 2010 - (Article about a real person, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject (CSD A7) 3 July 2013 - (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nouman Ali Khan)

Nouman Ali Khan is a Muslim speaker very popular among youth for his contemporary approach to religion. Please find the links on Nouman Ali Khan in mainstream media below :

http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/NewsDetails.aspx?storyid=360711

http://www.arabnews.com/news/445647

http://www.iioc.com/2012/ustadh-nouman-ali-khan/

http://www.icna.org/whyislam-noman-ali-khan-join-for-mexico-trip/

It is quite possible that when the article was taken up for deletion, Mr. Nouman was not well known. But in the past couple of years, he has shot to fame which is quite evident from the news links above. Hence, a page dedicated to him is very much justified. Please look into this. Thanks!

Shaik.afzal.chem (talk) 09:35, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Shaik.afzal.chem. I had a look at the article that was deleted. It didn't contain those sources and had a number of other issues. While I agree with you that Nouman is probably notable now, the article needs to be written from scratch as the article I deleted wasn't very good. If you want to write this article and submit it through WP:AFC, then point me to it, I'd be happy to review it. —Tom Morris (talk) 09:40, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Solution Inn ( article declined)

Hi,

How can I state that the company is notable?. Kinldy guide me.

Regards--Wakas444 (talk) 04:30, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi User:Wakas444. Wikipedia articles need to have reliable sources to establish notability. For articles on businesses, there need to be sources that aren't press releases or other things that have essentially been put there by company. In addition, the article fails to meet a basic standard of English. Firstly, you need to find good independent, reliable sources: coverage in newspapers or books or high-quality journalism. Secondly, the article needs to be rewritten in good English. —Tom Morris (talk) 07:56, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Thank for your reply. I have seen some artcles in wikipeda using press releases as sources. same as I did. for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Course_Hero

This article comes up with the same press release medium PRweb.com which i used in my article. Kindly confirm Why is this discrimination? One thing more can I use Sfgate.com as reliable source?--Wakas444 (talk) 05:41, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Your closure of "Proposed new Draft namespace"

Greetings. I wanted to thank you for your thorough, respectful, extremely detailed closure of the widespread discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive 107#Proposed new Draft namespace. It's true that I supported the proposal, so it might seem self-serving for me to thank someone for closing a discussion "my way", but I'm sincerely when I say that's not my reasoning for seeing this as a well-made closure. (I really don't feel all that strongly about the proposal one way or the other.) I'm impressed with how you carefully read the points made by all parties and showed respect for the various perspectives, concluding a difficult and contentious discussion in as calm and stable a way as possible. Your closing remarks were thorough and well-stated, which I think is just what the community needed.

I also know from personal experience that when you make a difficult call on a discussion with lots of strong feelings, you're likely to get far more criticisms and insults than thanks. So I thought I'd start off the thanks—not for the call you made, but for how you made it. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 23:06, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind words. On a personal level, I must note that I came to the discussion completely without any prejudgement. I had seen the CENT notices but had not formed any opinion on the topic before reading the debate. —Tom Morris (talk) 23:21, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

I'll chime in here as well and agree. That was a valuable act, not just for the consideration you gave it but because you made sure the effort and energy in the RfC wasn't spent in vain (coming from someone who opposed it). Protonk (talk) 15:28, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Thank you, Protonk. If people don't want to behead me after closing an RfC, I think it's probably a job well done. Tom Morris (talk) 21:33, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Yes, same here. I was wondering if I was missing anything Really Important, but dreaded having to sort it all out myself. Thanks. ~ J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 22:20, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

When I came here, I didn't know that some people had already commented. I would just like to add my thanks for your closure, Tom. I have rarely seen such a good RfC closure statement, ever. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:22, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Anonymous users creating in the Draft namespace?

Hi Tom,

In your RfC closure, it's unclear whether anonymous users would be able to create pages in the new Draft namespace or not. This has come up at bugzilla:57569#c3 so if you could clarify that, it would be appreciated. Thanks, Legoktm (talk) 01:24, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive

Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days!

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.

At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or leave a message on the Backlog Drive talk page. And remember, there are less than 4 days before the drive starts!--EdwardsBot (talk) 03:18, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
